First up - With a little help from my friends (you all know who you are and THANK YOU VERY MUCH!), the revised and fully functional Dart Resources (including all the resources in the Dart Package), Proportion, Apex and Solving Fitting Problems as well as the Sleeve Resources are all up in the Resource Library and functional again.

Please - PLEASE - if you have any problems with links or other media inside the resources, do not fail to let me know - I actually want to know and you can always respond to this email and I'll get it.

And now for the fun part - Last night at our ASG meeting I did a very brief discussion on the Dior exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art.  There are a plethora of these Dior exhibits around, and they are very popular and hugely attended.  What's going on here and what's the big deal about Dior?

There is no way I could have covered all that is going on with Dior last night, so I promised to write up a full commentary not only on the exhibits, but the phenomenon of Dior and Maison Dior.

This is a downloadable document that you all get for free here, but I will have this up in the Resource Center in another week.

**************

I started with the conditions in Paris in 1945 after the Liberation of Paris.  It's important to understand this because it shows the atmosphere in which Dior was working as well as the dramatic lack of resources.  The mental state of France at this point is not one of victory, hey, hey-let's celebrate or anything close to that.  It's merely, we've survived, now how do we survive the liberation!

In this scene, Dior starts his Maison Dior, and how that happened, and what that looked like.

In eleven short years later, Dior dies, and the succession of Dior starts.  The creative directors of Dior are almost as stellar and dynamic as the creator himself.   They have all had a huge impact on the world of fashion as the original found did.

For we sewists, I included some patterns and a technical sketch of the Dior Bar Jacket so you can make one for yourself, but also other patterns that you can use to make your jacket.  If there's enough interest, I'll do a video on how to design your own jacket in a video.  LMK if you would like that.

Then I talk a bit about what's in the exhibit, what's important, what to see, what's fun.  And then why this exhibit and others are so popular and what they offer that makes them so current and modern in today's fashion

Here's the download on the Dior Commentary.  This gives you complete background information to understand and appreciate this very important exhibit.

One last goodie to download - since you're in downtown Dallas, nothing like going through the Neiman Marcus flagship store.  And when you do you'll want to do a little scoop shopping.  Here's that wonderful Scoop Shoping Book you can download from the Resource Library

Not in the document but here are links to navigating downtown Dallas area

Dallas Museum of Art
Downtown Neiman Marcus
Fabrique Fabric Store
Ya'll (I'm from the south), leave OKC at 7am, put in the direction for the Dallas Museum of Art (first link above) and drive to the museum.  (I'd buy a membership before you go down.  It's $100 and you get two free memberships, discounts to the restaurant, and discounts at the store and you can get into see the museum anytime, but you do have to get tickets, but as a member you can get in almost any time), have a bite to eat at the restaurant at the museum (Socca). Then go to Neiman's which is right downtown (second link above) and they have a parking lot right next door to Neiman's - free valet parking.  Check out all the beautiful clothing and designer garments in Neiman's then trek up to Fabrique (3rd link above) and then hit Central Market next door to Fabrique (a little around the corner).  Pick up a snack and drink for the way home (I always get Walt a disgusting brownie or chocolate thingie) and trek home.  With the summer sun not setting till 9-ish, you're home before dark!

Finally, be sure and hit the links at the bottom of the Dior Commentary.  There are some absolutely wonderful resources out there on Dior that will really expand your understanding of the exhibit and why Dior is so popular right now.
