Ooops! I'm Late - But here's a Freebie

Ooops!  I goofed on the send out time on this.  So opening this morning's email and where's that email from SewingArtistry this morning - well - it's late - that's is where it is!

But here's something really fun.  I recently taught the Ponte Pant class and this is becoming one of my most popular classes.  The patterns I like to use for this class are the Stylearc Barb Pant and the Flat Bottom Flo Pant.  The Barb pant is great for an hourglass and pear figure and the Flo pant is great for the rectangle and apple type figures.  You use the pattern size that best fits your hip and it's a done deal.

What makes these pants so great is that they have a little stretch to them however they are magnificently drafted because when you get the hang right (which is what we do in class), then it hangs like a woven, dress pant which is great for my professional students.  They need to look nice in court and in business meetings or making presentations, and then be able to go back to their office and stretch in the store room for files, or simply get in and out of their car without feeling like they are strangled or splitting a seam.

But neither of these pants have pockets, and we all love pockets.  There's one caveat on the pockets and that is that if the pant is fairly tight around the hip and tummy area, anything you put in the pocket will imprint or show through.  But there are times that doesn't matter, and there are also times with it's simply a tube of lipstick or a key or a simple wallet or something very small when a pants pocket is perfect.  Just be aware that whatever you put in the pock will most likely imprint.

So, how do you do that.  It's not that hard, and I wrote up a great resource for this so that you can have it at hand.  This is for slant side pocket or a curved slant pocket.  I also include how to insert a zipper into this pocket because a zippered pocket in ponte pants is really heaven.  It keeps everything in great shape.  However you can also do a welt pocket or a flap up pocket which looks very nice in ponte type pants.

One other point, is that I wouldn't do welt or flap-up type pockets in neoprene or scuba fabrics unless its thinner than the traditional scuba weight as the thickness of the fabric really doesn't tailor that well.  So keep this to a doubleknit, ponte or lightweight scuba type fabrics.

This will be up for about a week then I'll take it down, but it's something that I think you all will really enjoy, and it's empowering to know that anytime you want, you can put in a pocket in your pant and have it look really great.

Stigma of Trade School

Stigma of Trade
School

I find this article very interesting, and like a lot of articles today about trade schools it tells a similar story – that story is that a lot of kids who are bright, and some even have college degrees, opt for trade school, where most parents would shudder […]

The Kate and Amal Effect

The Kate and Amal
Effect

Lately, I’ve been railing about this or that, so thought it was time for a positive view on fashion, cause it sure needs it.  Lots of times, when fashion gets really weird, I forget the runway all together in search of some style that’s real, practical, beautiful, […]

What’s Going On With Couture?

What's Going On With
Couture?

Couture has always been a strange duck.  For years it’s always been a little quirky and strange, but for the most part, it was filled with beautiful clothes.  But it was secret, at least until it was time for collections to hit the stores, and then it […]
