A New Surprise for Our Local City - Your Weekly Report from SewingArtistry

April 5, 2019

I enjoy this little weekly connection for just that - a personal connection with all of you.  I include things here that I would never post publicly.  That said, I received so many comments from last weeks post, that I thought I would clarify a few things.  In this age of everything you print, send, and especially type is accessible at a later date, I cannot and will not print everything I know here or any place.  I haven't been given permission to reveal the names of the teachers who have commented to me about some sites that have "crafts" type videos, and won't cross that line unless I have their permission.  My purpose last week was to give you heads up on how some of the instructors have been treated, and how that can directly affect the product that is offered.   That's it!

Now onto some other great news.  I know that a lot of you aren't from my neck of the woods, but I do recommend and do support locally owned fabric stores.  And the great news is that we have a new fabric store opening in my local area!

Meet Klara and Dragos Sescu.  They are from Romania, but first landed in Bakersfield, CA.  They moved to Edmond to raise their kids and have found a very warm welcome in Oklahoma (we're kinda known for that)!

They are located on the north side of the shopping center at Hefner and N. May at 10956 N. May Avenue.  They had a huge place in Bakersfield - and have many contacts.  They are mostly dealing in "good deals" so they have good yardage, but also have great fabrics in lace, 3-d and other special fabrics.  In the back room are one cuts - either end cuts or simply what's left over from designer cuts.  The place has a feel like a warehouse, and that's fine with me.  They keep the costs down.  They had a ton of products when I was in there and lots of stuff I would have purchased really fast, but the cash register wasn't open!  I can't wait till they open and see what all they have.  They are starting out small, 3,000 sf (real smart) and would like to expand if they can.

I'll post more about when they are opening, but in the mean time ......start your engines!!!

If you have a local shop in your area, support it.  These shops are rare, and often they can supply things to you that the big box stores can't.  They often can special order and will respond to your local needs.  They are all gems, so support them all you can!

*******

Also heads up - Yes, I've been pretending that I'm a geek again, and the admin part of the site is down - the blog and all the public stuff is still up, but no posting for a while.  Called in the Calvary and they are working on it now!  Bad me!!!!!

There is nothing that beats great style – NOTHING! This is most often classic, and yet you can see great style in some pretty dramatic looks, but it’s still classic.  There are a couple of young examples of this great style that I like to go to for […]

Mother of Bride Gown - A
Teaching Moment

Sometimes I get a great opportunity to show off my ingenuity and I really love it.  This requires a lot from a client because while I’m working on accomplishing all the puzzles involved in executing a specific design, my client can be totally taken aback by all […]

This is an exceptionally sad day in fashion for many reasons.  Karl Lagerfeld was a huge force in the fashion industry not only because of his fashion but because of his incredible energy level.  He headed many aspects of the fashion business and of course his most famous […]
