Happy Thanksgiving - Your Weekly Report from SewingArtistry!

So I think of Thanksgiving as the end of fall and the beginning of Christmas - as opposed to a lot of stores who believe I want to celebrate Christmas with the trick or treaters!  I'm not a jumper when it comes to seasons!  So even though the header is a little fall-ish, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

But before Christmas, it's fun to quietly sit and be thankful for all the great things that have happened this year.  There is so much discourse in our daily lives, that quietly reflecting on the things that are right - and there are so many - is so worthy of our time.

I know many of you may feel that sometimes your sewing can be more of a curse rather than a blessing, but from someone who has sewed most of her life, I can tell you it most certainly is a blessing and something that everyone of you should be glad you have not only the skill (and you do have skill), but you also have the desire to want to learn more.

There are so many people who live lives of quiet desperation.  They robotically go from one task to another, never enjoying or even reaping any satisfaction from the completion or even the challenge of various tasks.  Even worse they have either so little time or the inability to know what to do with the spare time they have, that they are truly lost souls.  We sewists, do NOT have to worry about this.  And although you may say that this may be inconsequential, believe me it is not.  There are many who may appear to have everything, but not having something that drives you to learn more is a death sentence waiting to be carried out!

So like Colonol Saito said in the Bridge on the River Kwai, "Be happy in your work!"  Or as Crash Davis said in Bull Durham: "So relax?  Let's have some fun out here!  This game's fun, OK?  Fun dammit!!!"

Of course that's the funny way.  But the real truth is - for all you sewists out there who feel you don't know everything or are searching for more information or wanting to get a better fit, thank your lucky stars you are still curious and wanting to learn more.  For it's when we stop learning we die.

Be thankful for your curiosity
Be thankful for your drive
Be thankful for your artistic ability
Be thankful for what you know
Be thankful you don't know it all
Be thankful that you want to know more!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
