OK - so I did some light tech organizing over on my mailing software and I must have asked them to conjugate all the verbs in Latin or something cause it went bonkers on me. I think I've figured it out (WordPress and my mail software do not play well together), but this is a test this morning to make sure that everyone who wants to get a freebie every Friday gets one.
And because you've all been so patient (So sorry about the multitudinous ways of signing up), here's a surprise goodie for you.
As you know - I'm VERY sensitive to your most valuable of all resources - time. We all have a limited amount of it, and we all need to make the most of it. Sooooo - our local debutante ball debs are announced in the spring when they are just home from college, and they have the summer to shop for the ball which is held in November on Thanksgiving weekend. That means that I have basically 3 months to do all the contracts for the debs, and sometimes 2 months
depending upon vacations, work, and other activities. For 5 or so gowns, that was doable for me alone. But one summer I got 13 contracts. There was no way I could do all of this by myself and I hired some outside help to do the basic work, making petticoats, doing some basic sewing and leaving the fitting and fine-tuning the design to me. BUT....time was of the essence, and I realized 30 days into the summer that I was panicked that I didn't have 30% of the work
done. So I set up a time chart, and worked out a time-management sheet, that enabled me to easily, clearly and feasibly plot out the time. After that I merely checked to see where I was and this kept me on track for the summer and I got all 13 dresses done.
That's the genesis of this chart and where it started. Through the years, I've perfected it and that is the chart today. This is developed to help you think of any and every thing possible that could cost you time in creating your garment. There are obviously some things that don't pertain to a specific garment, but do to others. These sections/items are there to remind you of what time you might use in doing this or that project.
As sort of a re-welcome and thank you for putting up with the housekeeping (and the inability of WordPress and my mail software to get along - they are currently in therapy to work everything out), here's the chart for free for a week. It includes not only an interactive chart (for you to fill out - you can keep the chart and use it over and over), but written instructions with video instructions to help you
work with the chart.
Have fun with this and once you download it, you can use it for almost any project from a basic tee to the most elaborate formal gown!
Sometimes the Emmys sneak up on me cause they are not in the traditional Red Carpet Season (which is between Jan 1st & the Oscars – usually the first of March or end of February). But we had them last night and where there’s a red carpet, there’s […]

Again, there is NOTHING more fun for me than taking an older dress and making it all new again. Emily was a client who came to me with her old deb dress and wanted to create something new for her. Her new dress is a lot more […]
