Wow - a whole other year and no doubt better than the last one!
It's always at this time of year that we begin to think of taking on new challenges or honing old ones and making something more of ourselves. And that is fabulous, of course, with all the usual caveats not to over-do it. And that's what I would like to see you all commit yourselves to - not overdoing it, but still pushing yourselves a little.
There's nothing like an encouraging word. Your brain, however, responds just as well from that encouraging word from you as it does to someone saying a reassuring and positive comment.
So what do you say to yourself? At-a-girl?...Way to go?...Good job? Those are good, but what are some other good ones? Here are some ideas to get you started. Sew slowly (or any menial task - ripping a seam out is a great way to start this), and repeat these to yourself:
My creativity is endless

More endless than you can possibly imagine. The more you create, the more you create in your brain. Reminding yourself of this makes creating more abundant.
My journey is beautiful and important
That doesn't mean that it goes in a straight line or even straight up or down. Sometimes it goes sideways, but the journey is always there for a reason. If I'm constantly making mistakes, it reminds me I haven't fully learned the lesson(s) that the mistakes keep showing me!
I am not competing with anyone

...and that includes yourself. Don't get into the habit of thinking that because you had an inspirational thought and garment one day that every day will be a breakthrough in creativity. Creativity doesn't work that way and sometimes you will have blue-sky days and sometimes you will have gray-sky days. But even in those gray-sky days you are learning and advancing! But particularly don't get hung-up on someone else can do something that you find
impossible. Don't go there - ever!
My creativity is valuable because I am valuable.

And more ways than one. The whole process of creating is a personal resource hog. Making the most of your resources is key and believing that your creativity is something to fill the day with, or only fooling around, is kidding yourself. Even though it's takes a lot of your resources, it is in the end well worth it....because....
My creativity is worth investing in

The investment you make today in your creativity can reap bounds of inspiration and ideas later. Don't ever think that investing your resources in your creativity is a lark or not worth it. You will always learn. Sometimes it may seem like too many un-sewing moments. But these too are learning tools. Your resources, time and money, are always well-spent when your creativity is nurtured and growing. The most valuable of your resources is your time, and the
time you spend learning and opening yourself up to new ways of thinking about old problems can not be discounted or understated. I call these major breakthroughs and they can be uplifting as well as energy boosts to your sewing.
Hopefully some of these ideas will give you some much needed oomph this New Year and bring on some new and wonderful ideas for sewing for yourself.
