So here we are past all the holidays and time to take down the decorations and think about the new year.  Doing that we're all full of new commitments and promises for the new year.  Ready to try something that we've always wanted to do, and that includes me too.

I'm working like a little Trojan here on a really fun new package to offer you.  It's taking a little longer than I thought cause even though I have most of the bones of the products in the old Resource Library, all the links (you know the downloads and extras that come in each document) are defunct cause they were all from the old website.  So that means I have to go through them and reload them all back up, and hopefully they are the correct versions.  There's a lot of neatening up I have to do.

But it's coming.  It's taking a little longer than I had originally thought.  But here's a preview of what's coming.  This is the time of year to think about starting new habits, and even thinking about old habits in new ways so we can commit to doing better and being more efficient.  I love these sorts of projects and information cause even these days under lockdown, I'm working a lot to create new classes and new information that concise, packed with information and more than anything inspiring and useful.  I also have some thoughts about more Zoom with Claire ideas.

I'd love to get a quick feedback from you about those classes.  I've done up a quick simple, anonymous fill out - click here - that I would really appreciate your input.  This is all about you guys and I want to make something that you all would find useful and important in your sewing world.

So as a preview as to what is to come, here's something I've been using lately which sounds like some sort of ancient torture, but it's really been useful.

You know how lots of folks say, I have all these To-Do lists and apps and all this and yet I'm not getting that much done.  As a matter of fact a lot of folks say that at the end of the day when they look at their list, it seems they haven't gotten anything done all day.  That's discouraging.  More than that, it's down-right demoralizing.

So lately I've been messing around with a new idea on this.  And i have to tell you the first time I heard about this, I was like - Uhhhh I don't think so!!!!  But this came from a very good source and I thought well I would give it a try.

I use Google Calendar to schedule everything cause I can get it on my smartphone and my desktop and can schedule anything that will be carried to all my calendars no matter where I pick it up.  That's really handy.  In addition I can categorize everything so that some tasks are personal, some are SewingArtistry, some are clients, some are Walt, some are travel and basically it includes everything.

Here's how that looks:

Now don't let this scare you but this actually works really well.  If you need to see this bigger (I would), click here.  One of the first things I do when scheduling like this is schedule in what's called self-care time first.

That's something that when you're doing a to-do list, probably is the last thing scheduled in.  And then what happens is that you get over-booked, and tired, and need a natural break, but nothing is scheduled so off you go into solitaire hell, or that black hole of the internet looking for the right sleeve in the right fabric, and oh - look at that new color, maybe I could find that on Pantone, and wow, look at the new book from Pantone, which reminds me I wanted to order that new book on Amazon, and then let's not even talk about the black hole of no return that Amazon leads you to!  Whew!!!  I need a break after that.

So scheduling in self care and those times to walk the dog, take a stretch break or whatever are vital.  My stretch break is about 30 seconds to 2 minutes long.  I take about 5 to 10 deep breathes and repeat this month's mantra (I have a mantra for each month), and then gently bring myself back to work.    This takes very little time and it's so refreshing.  I usually try and schedule these in every 30 minutes to 1 hour.  Yeah, that sounds like a lot of "self care" but it's really not, and it's amazing how that break keeps me focused and paying attention to what's really going on.

This is part of what I'm putting together for next week.  I probably could have done it today, but I wanted to make sure it had all the bugs out of it - as much as possible.  And I try and keep these things concise and to the point.

I hope this gives you something to think about.  There will be much more on this and other wonderful strategies about your sewing environment, mental and physical for next week.

In the meantime, if you have a chance, go over and let me know what you would like to see with Zoom with Claire calls -

Well, not quite yet, but it's coming - next week!
