Continuing Saga of the Site
So in the very long melodrama of the SewingArtistry.com site, things are finally coming to a climax or at least to a reconciliation.
After weeks working with the current host, and spending way too much money, I've saved the name, but that's about it. Long story short is that most of my content is behind a protected wall, and since no one can get into my IT guy's computer, it will disappear at the end of October. Talking with the current host, it appears, that I'm not the only one in this mess. But it does appear that I am the only one who has rescued the site name from the IT guy's
client portfolio.
The bottom line is that I have to create the whole site over again. There is no way around this. The site will be substantially less glorious-looking, which is OK. I don't think you all are interested in anything glorious so much as content, and that's what I've been working madly to preserve.
All this will take about 45 days to complete. There will be limited stuff available, however most likely the Resource Library won't be working for a while. Good news is that I have the whole library on my hard drive, so once the online library is set up, it will be like before, but that will take 45 days!!! Ugh!
So, I'm looking at this from a positive point of view. Although I've lost most of the blogs and most of the other content, I do have most of the basic information, and from that we can create a whole new site. I won't try and reconstruct all new blogs, but will try and reconstruct some of the best ones.
Toward that end, and you guys I can't tell you how much this would help, if you can make some comments and suggestions about problems you've had on the site (not lately, lately it's been a mess), finding things on the site, having some organizational tool that you haven't seen before but would like to see (personally I adore breadcrumbs, to show you where you are, and where you can get back to) or any other comments, simply respond to this email or if you
would like to comment in a more structured way, click here.
So the upshot is to bear with me. Things will get better and be much better. It will take about 2 weeks to get all this done, and I will keep you up to date with these weekly emails. In the meantime, old links won't work, and there will be a different structure to the site. I'll let you know when things are back to normal.
This whole experience is a lesson on not only being responsible when you're alive, but being responsible when you die and are dead.
One of the most beautiful gifts you can give those who you leave behind, even if you have no immediately heirs, is a trust. A trust is a document that tells everyone in a legal, binding way how you want the value of your life left to those you love (or don't love) in a way that is the most economical and most efficient. Every person, no matter how small or little their estate, should have a trust as this enables those you leave behind the most amount they are legally
entitled to. Not only that, but a trust can be used later by your heirs for a "holding" entity for funds for your heirs.
I have a trust, and it tells my family how to take care of me if I become a blithering idiot (most likely lock me in my stash room with my sewing machine and I won't need anything else!). It's done with full knowledge of my family members, so that everyone knows what to expect and there are no surprises. Most of all, I want to leave this planet, with them all talking with each other immediately after and for years to come.
Having a trust is a beautiful, loving gift you can leave your family and makes an already bereft and hard time just a little easier for those you love and leave behind.
And I appreciate all the understanding comments and messages that I have received. And it pains me to have to put you all through this mess, but there it is....and it is what it is! Fortunately, like everything else in life, things change and it won't last forever, even though it seems like it!!!!
But something fun is on the horizon - more next week!
PS - I do a lot of posting on Facebook as SewingArtistry - like my page to see more goodies!
