There's Nothing Like A Challenge 🧵 👗 Your Weekly Report from SewingArtistry

So here we are in May and things are finally beginning to warm up, albeit a few hiccups in the weather along the way, and yes the world is beginning to open up as well (I finally got my hair cut today with mask which is hard to do but my guy is an artist and he does remarkable work).  But this also means a change in seasons, and sometimes when we've been quarantining too !#%*$½@ long left to our own devices, sometimes we run out of ideas or even enough wherewithal to think about new ideas.

One of the fun things I love to do when I'm brain dead out of ideas is to get onto Instagram and check out the challenges.  Usually the challenges have hashtags (they're little things like this:  # before a name of the challenge) and they really have lots of ideas.  As a matter of fact, it's fun to participate in these.  Usually there's no rules and if you miss the first of it, it's OK cause you can always join in.

There are yearly challenges, #curvyyearofsewing, #RTWfast, and probably the most popular of yearly challenges #themakeninechallenge.  All of these are mostly on Instagram, and in each post is the recommended hashtag for whatever challenge your sewing.

My favs are the monthly challenges and of course right now is #MeMadeMay2020 (some have years and some don't - for a lot more results do this w/o the year) with lots and lots and lots of ideas.  Other monthly challenges are #SlowFashionOctober, #SewPhotoHop (sometimes with a month behind it), #Sewvemberchallenge, and #stitchedwithatwist.  There are a lot of iterations of these, so I encourage you to check out these hashtags and see which ones you really like, and if you like follow them.   If you don't like them you can always unfollow.

There's are lots of other hashtags that are great to follow and I encourage you to hit the "Explore" button (the magnifying glass at the bottom of your toolbar) and get lost like I did down a long big black hole of creativity and ideas. One leads to another leads to another and I nearly had enough time to to tap this little missal out before the black hole sucked me in forever!

But the monthly challenges are the ones that are so much fun.  I recommend that if you are inclined and interested, join one.  They are a wonderful way to get your juices rolling (you know the old adage, "Just do it," really does work) and sometimes these challenges are great at getting you up and going.  If you fall out or lose interest or it's simply not for you, you can always stop posting.  After all this is supposed to be fun.

More than anything, what I like about joining is meeting a whole new set of friends and even people to follow to find resources and new ideas.

There's nothing like a challenge to get your juices flowing!

So we've been working really hard and things are shaping up nicely on the site.  Fortunately we've accomplished all this without major disruption.  IOW, I didn't crash the site! - It still works - only better.  The easiest way to get around is with the menu logo in the upper right.  Plus there's a search on the blog post page and a search box on the Resource Library.

Of course if there's anything you can think of that would make it easier to get around, I really want to know.  You can always hit reply to this email to contact me or there's a whole bunch of ways to follow and contact me in social media on the contact page through the menu on the upper right of each page.

Check it out for yourself, click here.
