ThanksgivingNovember 29, 2024
This time of year is filled with the
reaping of the harvest and celebration of all the bountifulness that's happened in our lives. Sometimes we may seem like it's not so bountiful, but we are all so lucky for so many reasons that many are not. Here are a few of mine:
- I have loving family and friends to spend the holidays with,
- I have something (usually on a deadline) to do every day,
- I'm healthy, OK I'm going to outlive my teeth, but other than that, I'm in good shape,
- I still have my talents and can still use them
- I still have the drive for creativity, which keeps me going from one project to another,
- I'm a little slower, but not by much and I
seem to be able to get my list of chores done as well as my sewing,
- I have the most creative and wonderful subscribers who keep me thinking and busy search for better solutions to all your fitting and sizing puzzles.
I don't seem to look at sewing problems as really a set-back type problem.
There are more puzzles out there to be solved. Sort like the way a mountaineer climbs mountains - because they are there.
Mostly, I love that I can still do what I love well enough to teach it and share my passion with others who love sewing as much. So many do not have a love or passion that they can enjoy. This beautiful oomph gets us out of bed, dressed, and ready to go - for another day of sewing. And that problem-solving, which is what sewing is
about, is so great for our brain health and high.
In an interview with a top psychologist, the interviewer asked, "What one thing would you recommend that would give a person an instant dopamine fix?" Dopamine is a substance that acts within the brain to help regulate movement and emotion. It's what folks call a "natural high!" Looking at a puzzle or garment I've been working on and effecting a solution or idea is probably one of my most significant highs.
It's so high that this is what keeps me connected with sewing. It's a constant feel-good situation.
By the way, the psychologist's answer was to listen to your favorite song, and the feeling you get is that dopamine high.
But we sewists, can listen to music AND admire our work so we get the double high!
Here's to all my sewing dopamine junkies out there who are hooked on the satisfaction, enjoyment of accomplishment, and admiring a job well
done!
Thank you - and have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Tracking a fashion trend isn't all that hard after seeing a few of them.
Living from Mid-Century Modern through Twiggy...
It's worth the time to look at these styles, particularly today as
there is a group of that wants to look....
This is the way fashion used to be -- pretty, flattering and I can't wait to make some of...
NOTE: There are some folks who can't get my email, or it's sporadic, or something is hinky. I will always respond to any of you who send a private message, whether it's about the topic of the week or something else. If you don't get anything
from me, it's probably because the support@sewingartistry.com email is blocked, and even a private message can't get through. In that case, I'm on Instagram often, and you can always PM me at @sewingartistry. As a precaution,
please ensure I'm in your email Address Book and check your spam, junk, and trash folders. Some email clients get extra excited when they see emails coming into the Inbox that go to many other receivers. They automatically think it's trash or spam, and it never makes it to the Inbox. I must constantly check my spam and junk folders to ensure I'm getting the emails I subscribe to.
