But I don't like to make these under about 7/8". The thing is that you're doing a lot of folding pressing and stitching and if you get much below 7/8", then it starts looking really raw and difficult. On the other hand, a large buttonhole - in the 1¼"
on up, a bound buttonhole is not only beautiful, but it's almost essential.
There is an exception (there's always an exception). When you get to the 1" to 1¾" range a corded buttonhole can work wonders. Because it's corded, it has extra thickness which can keep it from wrinkling and looking like a slice of well-done bacon.
There's also two feet you can use to do this buttonhole - the automatic and the manual feet. The reason you need the manual even
if your automatic is killer good, is that the automatic only goes to a certain length. If you're button is in the larger size, it's nice to know how to use the manual so that you can make any size you wish.
Here's a short video as a Christmas present to all of you, on how to do this buttonhole with the manual foot and the automatic buttonhole foot.
