The Art of Pinning

Pinning, schminning - what's the big deal?  Stick a pin in the fabric and that's all you have to worry about.  Well, pinning is the base of where we sew, and it can have a huge effect - for good and for bad.  

What I'm talking about today is the curve that pinning can create that you can actually sew into a garment.  That's right you can actually make the fabric curve just the way you want by starting with good pinning.  
 

Look closely here and you can see that one side has a slight curve to it, while the other side is much flatter.  What happened?  The pinning is different and the pinning on the left is done specifically to make that curve.  This is exactly what pad stitching does.  Here's a video to help you understand this, cause frankly I can't do this with only photos.  
 

This is one of those techniques that you learn and suddenly, there's a whole world that opens up where you can use this.  This is also one of those trademark bespoke techniques that separates Made-to-Measure from Bespoke.
