Thinking Creatively

I love the fall in the Southern Plains.  It's Indian Summer and it's what we wait for all summer long.  Things slow down and it's that cooler evening, with temperate days.  Things are a big overgrown this time of year, but it's also a great time to reflect on the productivity of the summer.  We actually put up some canned pears, as the resident agronomist (not me!), had come up with a method by which to rescue a few of the huge pear crop from the squirrels (those rascals ate about 80% of the crop).  And then canned them. 
 

This is the most fun of Indian Summer, although the bounty wasn't as much as past years, there's something new - the pears, that we can have fun with.  

This is the same high I get out of trying something new and then sitting back and looking at the finished product and thinking, "Well done!"  There's really nothing higher high for an artist than that - well done!  

Lately, I've been gifted a really fancy serger and to be honest, I've felt that I didn't have the room for it and really didn't need it.  My sewing machine can work fine on knits, and it does, so I really didn't need this fancy serger.  Then I went to visit my long-time sewing buddy for sewcation, and she has her studio all set up beautifully with all her machines up and available.  She doesn't have to have room for clients or a fitting space, so she can really put on a show in her studio.  She had four of us gals in there all working on projects and yacking away. 

So while I was there, I forgot how quickly a pair of knit pants goes up on the serger, and had been wanting to try a new StyleArc pattern (yes, I get a new pattern every once in a while).  So got out the gifted serger.  
 

And yes that is the original serger that Bernina made back in the 1880's!!! (only joking - it wasn't quite that long ago).  And I forgot how nice the newer models are.  The 4-thread really makes a difference on those seams and literally don't have to do anything else but sew them up and you're done.  

So after a few test sews on the new serger, I was set to go.  

Now, from the reality department, I have to say I started these about 11:30 this morning, and I had to answer two emergency calls (on another business I own) solve those problems, then fix lunch, then Walt wants to sell an auxiliary fuel tank so had to get those photos straight and online, and had to assist Bruno, the dog, in chasing a big hawk out of the yard (with the help of yacking mockingbirds!), but am ready to leave at 5:30 all dressed up in my new pants that really took about an hour - if I'm honest.  These are the Sailor Sue Pants from StyleArc, and once again, I am impressed with the line and cut of these pants.  These are a fuller cut, and are recommended for jerseys (yeah, I know - jerseys for pants - uh - not in my lifetime!)  But I'm here to tell you I might change my mind.  I'm going to learn to think differently.  
 

The hang on these pants is enough to make a bespoke tailor salivate.  I'm so impressed with these pants.  I  may make some tweaks on them, but for a pear shape person, I'm very impressed.

Now, I'm not saying I look the same, but I am very impressed with the line and cut of this pattern because I'm short and a thick through the thighs and hips but the cut is so good on these pants that they work.  These are not the granny cut pants, yet they are those skin tight pants that are not pants (they are leggings and need to be worn with tunic-type tops).  

Again, it's fun to sit back and try something new (and fast - goodness, it was split-second practically), and then immediately enjoy the fruits of my labor.  BTW, quick word about color.  I stay in my pallet so I had about 4 jackets already that go with this pant.  I'll probably be taking some more photos and running them up on Instagram.
