Before I start the weekly fun in sewing wonderful things, I've finally hit my end with GoDaddy.  They have squeezed the last $ out of me, through all the horrid trails through my dear sweet IT keeling over with a heart attack, and trying to rescue my site, which cost me a very handsome amount of money that I really didn't have in my budget.  Yesterday, I received an email that they were going to renew my two emails for $150/year.  This doesn't include the domain charge just to host my site, forcing 365 (a wonderful program
🙄 that forces you to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MSN email, Edge, Bing and everything MS, which means less choice, less control and can you just imagine the amount of information that MS will be gathering on you?  No thank you!  And then there's this - it's harder and harder to use another browser in Windows 11 - We're worried about Google - MS is right behind them trying to ram this stuff down our throats.).  Anyway GoDaddy is forcing that on all it's users, or else you pay through the nose for simple things like email and hosting.

So I contacted BlueHost which I've heard is very fair, and indeed they are.  They actually are telling me that for $90/year I can have unlimited email and hosting and everything I need.  Duh!  No Brainer!

But that means that things might be a little hinky for a week while they migrate everything over to their site.  I'm hoping not, but just to be forewarned if emails return or bounce, wait a couple of days and try again.

I promise this is the last of the site woes, and hopefully this will help anyone else even mildly considering GoDaddy.  If you would like more information you can reply to this email and I'm happy to give you the details on my switch!

And now to something way more fun - like sewing - I need to sew a little to get my head straight!!!!

Why is sewing with our core patterns so wonderful?

The short answer is, because you've done all the tweaking and work to make it flattering and fitted for you, so that you don't have to do this all over again for every pattern you want to sew up!

But, hey, doesn't that sound just a little too simple?  I mean really - look at all the courses on the internet about fitting and how this  has to be taken up, how that has to be let out.  Really?  It can't be that simple.

But it is.  And that's why using our core patterns is so easy and so much fun.  It's not only easy but it's a huge time-saver.

But you ask:  "Claire, why make the same pattern over and over and over?  I mean really that's boring, and it's the same thing. I've done it, now I want to move onto something "new"!!!!"

OK - there's some assumptions and premises here that are not really accurate...
  • Making the same pattern over and over does not mean that it turns out the same.  As a matter of fact it's one of the things I first learned about sewing a wardrobe. (after I finally figured out I knew how to sew most of my own clothes.  Because you first learn to sew, then you next learn that you know how to sew - I know sounds weird, but there it is.) When you make the pattern, with no design variations other than a different fabric, the garment turns out totally different.
Do these two garments look alike?

Not even close, and yet they are the same core pattern.  Not only that, but both of them have the most marvelous silhouette on my body.

But let's look at another example

In this case both of these are exactly the same pattern, made exactly the same way, but with different fabric.  The difference in fabric make these two completely different garments.

So let's go on doing variations.....
  • So you want to make a something new - well there is nothing like a detail alteration or even blocking or any number of other different alterations that you can make, that will make your garment new but not having to deal with fitting problems.
  • If you want something new that will give you a challenge, then creating a feature, or even a blocking design, can be a wonderful challenge to use with your core pattern.
What is important to remember is that simply because you are using a base pattern, does not mean that you are making something boring over and over again.

We wouldn't think anything at all of having multiple garments of the same pattern in different patterns or colors.  Go to any site and you'll see any number of different patterns and colors.  The difference is that when you purchase online or use a "new" pattern, then you have problems with fitting that you have to work through, when you've already worked through them all in your core pattern.

I can honestly tell you that I can't keep up with all the photos of how many times I've made up this core pattern.  I'm getting ready to do some serious type work on my woven core pattern and can't wait!!!

For the first of the year, after things have settled down, time to start thinking about new projects.  But what to do?  Here you are with all this time and BAM!  Your memory and creative juices have all dried up.  Why is that?

Where do you start?

It's all about Steps...
It's not that hard, and it's not that big.  Let's take this in steps, and just like any big project, when you break it down in to steps suddenly you see how to go about doing this.

Easier as you go along...
The fun thing here is that as you start, it's slow, but as you get going, it gets easier and easier, and finally when you get close to starting your project, you're so pumped it's hard to stop!

As usual these are all offered separately, and at a nice discount, but an even bigger discount for the whole package.  If you have some of these already, no worries, cause you don't have to get it again, that's why I do these all at a discount.

Inspiration - this is a great guide on getting you through blocks, explaining what they are, and it includes the new "The Artistic Process" which is more up-to-date information and guidelines for whipping your creative juices into action.

Arranging Your Studio - is just as vital as those steps toward creating your project.  Without the right environment, it can be a real task to keep going.  With the right environment, you will naturally feel good about your space and want to be in it creating.

Time Management is key for getting through this process without going down those time-steeling black holes, and again corporations have studied this up the wazoo, and there's no reason we can't use their techniques and methods to make our precious time spent as well as possible.

Sketching - This is like an artist's cheating secret.  With sketching it's so easy to work through one design after another, after another.

My Favorite Inspirational And Idea Books - There is nothing like great books that are filled with ideas that become your go-to resource books.  As well, it's great to understand the concept of creating and what we can do to better create - here's my list of these books I have used for decades.  Some are out of print, but the used versions are just as good.

The Whole Creative Inspiration Package is here.  This contains all these resource from the SewingArtistry Library as well as some bonuses - like Space Dynamics in better designing your studio space, lists of my favorite inspirational and idea books, list of my favorite inspiration and idea books which will really get your creativity juices running and some other gems.

As usual these are all at 20% discount but the Inspiration Package is at a further discount with extra goodies.
